Characteristics and Processing Techniques of Polyester Viscose Fabrics

Polyester viscose fabric is a functional textile material blended from polyester (polyester fiber) and viscose (regenerated cellulose fiber). It combines the advantages of both and is widely used in clothing, home textiles, and other fields. Understanding its characteristics and processing techniques is crucial to improving product quality.

 

I. Fabric Characteristics Analysis

Polyester fiber is characterized by high strength, wrinkle resistance, abrasion resistance, and quick washability, while viscose fiber is known for its softness, breathability, and excellent moisture absorption. This blend of the two creates a fabric that retains the stiffness of polyester while imparting the comfortable feel of viscose, making it suitable for a variety of garments, including shirts, suits, and dresses. However, viscose fiber has a low wet strength, so special care must be taken during washing to avoid excessive friction that may cause deformation or pilling.

 

II. Washing and Maintenance Techniques
1. Gentle Washing: It is recommended to use a neutral detergent and water temperatures below 40°C to prevent shrinkage or damage to the viscose fibers. Use the gentle cycle when machine washing to reduce mechanical friction.

2. Avoid direct sunlight: Polyester is relatively light-resistant, but viscose tends to yellow easily with prolonged exposure. It is recommended to dry in the shade or in a well-ventilated area.

3. Ironing Notes: The ironing temperature should not be too high. The optimal temperature for viscose is around 110°C, while polyester can withstand higher temperatures (approximately 150°C). It is recommended to use a damp cloth when ironing to prevent direct heat damage to the fiber.

 

III. Dyeing and Finishing

Polyester and viscose fabrics require different dyeing processes. Polyester typically requires high-temperature, high-pressure disperse dyes, while viscose is more suitable for room-temperature reactive dyes. During the finishing stage, softening treatments can be applied to enhance wearing comfort, while antistatic treatments can also be used to mitigate the static charge problem of viscose fibers.

Applying these techniques effectively can maximize the advantages of polyester and viscose fabrics, extending their lifespan while maintaining their excellent appearance.
